The department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Arts Therapist to work on the UHealth campus. The Arts Therapist functions as an integral part of the treatment team, and facilitates groups and individual expressive art projects with patients. Key responsibilities include planning, designing, and implementation of therapeutic creative and expressive activities and programs for patients; provides support services for patients and their families of various ages by using creative mediums to assist them in increasing their physical, cognitive and emotional health. This role also oversees group safety and plans activities that meet the patient's and clinical group needs. Core functions include facilitating individual and group art therapy sessions for patients of all ages focusing on emotional support, self-expression, coping strategies, and quality-of-life improvement; tailoring art therapy interventions to meet the diverse needs of oncology patients at different stages of treatment, recovery, or end-of-life care; providing art therapy services to families and caregivers; offering bedside art therapy services to inpatients; supporting patients receiving chemotherapy; educating patients, families, and staff on the benefits of art therapy in oncology care; collaborating with multidisciplinary teams; maintaining accurate documentation; developing and presenting reports; assisting in program development; creating public awareness opportunities; and participating in professional development and quality improvement initiatives. Core requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (Master's preferred), Basic Life Support Certification (CPR), CTRS Certificate, minimum 1 year of relevant experience, and skills such as attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, confidentiality, flexibility to work evenings/nights/weekends, and commitment to the University’s core values.
