Pay Rate: Specialized CBWS Hourly Rate ($16.50/hour). This pay rate aligns with the pay scale for Fair Opportunity Project and is subject to an annual wage increase.

IMPORTANT: STUDENTS MUST HAVE A STATE OR FEDERAL WORK AWARD TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMMUNITY BASED WORK STUDY (CBWS) POSITIONS. Student CBWS work eligibility is subject to change due to work award re-determinations over the summer. This means even students who were a chosen applicant for the position may be ineligible to work if they do not have a state/federal work award come Fall 2025. Description of the Position:
Fair Opportunity Project empowers students to access and afford college through its digital portal of curated, comprehensive resources and services on all aspects of the college application process. Our student-facing materials are created by a diverse pool of current college students and college advising professionals who compile college admissions and financial aid resources of the highest quality. Our approach uses technology and radical accessibility to reach and support college-interested students anywhere on the planet. Fair Opportunity Project's resources have been accessed by over 100,000 users across 204 countries, which has resulted in a Forbes 30 under 30 award and features in the New York Times, CNBC, Thrillist, the Harvard Ed Magazine, Study Breaks Magazine, and the Harvard Gazette.

As a Junior Website Developer, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving Fair Opportunity Project's digital presence. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in web development while contributing to a mission-driven organization dedicated to educational equity. You'll work closely with our team to enhance the functionality, accessibility, and user experience of our website. Through this position, you'll gain practical skills in front-end and back-end web development, UX/UI design, and website optimization-all while ensuring that students, educators, and families have seamless access to our free college resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in maintaining and updating Fair Opportunity Project's website to ensure optimal performance and user experience
  • Implement new features and improvements to enhance website accessibility and functionality
  • Troubleshoot and fix website issues related to layout, navigation, or responsiveness
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to integrate digital content and improve website engagement
  • Support the development of interactive features to improve student engagement
  • Ensure website design aligns with Fair Opportunity Project's brand and mission
  • Conduct user testing and suggest improvements based on analytics and feedback
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)
  • Evidence of effectiveness in working independently, demonstrated self-starter
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong research and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting
  • Experience or willingness to write in Javascript and HTML
  • Understanding of UI/UX design principles and website usability best practices
  • Ideally candidate has experience in Postgres, React, and Express
