Job Description

Central State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief of Staff to serve as a key member of the President’s Leadership Team and assist the President in planning and executing a wide range of complex executive and administrative duties as well as fostering collaboration with internal and external university stakeholders. The incumbent will be an individual possessing a commitment to integrity and an ability to effectively support the President on a wide range of programs and issues.

Job Summary/Basic Function

  • Manage the Presidents engagement with internal and external constituents, provide operational support for Presidential advisory boards, and committees.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to support coordination of institutional priorities and ensure alignment with the President's vision; facilitate information sharing and resource coordination across divisions
  • Ensure implementation of programs developed and initiated by the President to their successful completion.
  • Conduct research, evaluate and provide information and recommendations to the President on a range of university initiatives.
  • Support the President in facilitating senior leadership team effectiveness and advancing university wide initiatives.
  • Manage the many and diverse requests and requirements of the Office of the President, including responding to students, faculty and staff, and visitors.
  • Oversee mandatory reports of the Office of the President and external agencies, ensuring deadlines are met, review and edit documents and correspondence.
  • Compose correspondence and speeches for the President.
  • Ensure accurate, proper, and timely flow of information to and from the Office of the President
  • Advise the President on day-to-day office operations, ensure efficiency and effectiveness, and optimize resources, including the management of the budget for the Office of the President.
  • Build and nurture relationships to serve as a resource for the President and act as point of contact as designated for key constituents to resolve complex issues. 
  • Provide administrative oversight and staff supervision for the Office of the President.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with appropriate professional experience.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive professional experience that includes supporting and coordinating high level administrative functions such as, governance, budget management, policy implementation, programs oversight, crisis management, and strategic initiatives.
  • Strong work ethic, personal integrity, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information and make sound decisions when representing the President's office.
  • Demonstrated organizational, management, leadership and critical thinking skills.
  • The ability to thrive in an environment that requires strategic thought and tactical execution.
  • Ability to supervise, direct, and evaluate staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
