Must have Prior DOE and Prior Commercial Nuclear Power Plant work experience

Work Location: Los Alamos, NM

Rate : is open and non-exempt

Hours : 40 Hours per week

Mob / Demob : Reimbursed in accordance with travel Policy

Trip home : 1 per month

Construction Manager (Construction Superintendent)

Construction Manager (Construction Superintendent) position to direct work activities in the ALDWP Project Management Office for Balance of Plant. The Construction Manager (Construction Superintendent) will be responsible for directing the sequence of work for multi-discipline, operating within assigned areas. Will ensure that facility modification continuously adhere to engineering designs, engineering document control, specifications, quality standards, schedules, material procurement and budgets.

The Construction Manager (Construction Superintendent) will work closely with System Engineers, Construction Managers, Superintendent Leads, and Project Managers.

Project size is typically < $500k. Will support the investigation of abnormal events, incidents, and/or accidents to identify the root cause and assist in implementing appropriate corrective actions. Establish, coordinate, and implement maintenance schedules that encompass resources, material, and equipment requirements/availability. Schedule core craft by coordinating with the schedulers ahead of time. Track costs to meet formal estimated jobs, report changes, and maintain appropriated budgets. May be required to work a flexible schedule i.e. weekends, or after hours.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Technical Leadership

Demonstrated experience and skill with leadership. Experience with organizing, directing, and controlling a team in a unionized labor environment.

  • Technical Excellence

Knowledge of and experience with facility maintenance and/or construction management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control and facility control systems. Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

  • Personal Leadership

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong and effective customer engagement. Demonstrated experience interfacing with program, project, and line management to develop clear and executable action plans to address issues or needs. Provide personal leadership, direction and technical advice regarding health, safety and environmental compliance. Demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining actions to be performed on problems affecting maintenance programs.

  • Communication

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports. Demonstrated ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities including the coordination of materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers. Ability to promote an open communication environment to develop mutual trust and teamwork.

Additional Job Requirements for Superintendent 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades, renovations and D&D.
  • Lead constructability reviews of the design process and the potential impacts to construction cost and schedule.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with facility maintenance and/or construction management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control and facility control systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.
  • Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience related to the position.

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of climbing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting as part of daily job responsibilities. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 – 60 lbs.
