Job Description

Joining The American Red Cross is a unique experience – it’s as much about what you do as how you feel about it. You become a vital part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, working with welcoming and diverse team members who are committed yet humble. Your career can grow within a movement that values impact, where success is measured in lives helped, communities rebuilt, and positive change achieved.

As a force for good, you’ll find mentors to support your growth along a meaningful career path. Your work aligns with a mission bigger than yourself. You’ll be cared for with competitive compensation and benefits, and become part of a community that respects your life outside of work as much as your contributions at work.

Role Overview

The Director, Program Strategy and Partnerships, leads strategic initiatives and planning for international disaster preparedness, response, and recovery within the American Red Cross. This role focuses on innovation and developing strategic partnerships with the IFRC Secretariat and National Societies. Responsibilities include creating forward-thinking strategies that promote integrated disaster risk management, anticipatory action, and community resilience, ensuring adoption and implementation within the global RCRC Movement. The Director helps shape the vision for international disaster management programming and develops impactful, scalable, and sustainable program strategies for Priority Countries, aligned with the principles and frameworks of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This position embodies visionary leadership, collaboration, and adaptability, reporting to the Sr Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in IFRC preparedness, mitigation, and readiness forums, providing thought leadership on climate-smart disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, and anticipatory action.
  • Support development of bilateral strategic partnership plans within the Movement shared leadership framework and American Red Cross commitments.
  • Identify emerging trends and innovations in humanitarian assistance and disaster management to position the organization as a leader in global humanitarian efforts.
  • Lead the evolution of ISD’s unified programming doctrine, reflecting integrated disaster management and development components.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent.
  • 5 years of management experience.
  • Experience in innovative humanitarian approaches, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a matrixed management structure.
  • Preferred experience with the Red Cross/Red Crescent network and local/national partners.

Salary and Benefits:

The annual salary range is $120,000 - $130,000, based on location, skills, and experience. Benefits include health plans, PTO, holidays, 401K match, paid family leave, and more.
