Role Description

A geotechnical driller is a profession that specializes in the drilling and sampling of soils and rock for geotechnical engineering and environmental investigations. This is a full-time on-site role for a geotechnical driller at SEQ Drilling Inc. located in Hanover, VA. The geotechnical driller will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, conducting drilling operations, utilizing hollow stem augers, mud rotary, and rock coring techniques, performing inspections, and working various terrains.

Qualifications

• Operate CME Drill Rigs and various standard penetration test (SPT) vertical drilling methods.
• Proficient in safety protocols
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Operate and maintain geotechnical drilling equipment, backhoes, bulldozers, dump trucks and other heavy equipment (bonus points)
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• CDL, Commercial Driver's License

Drilling for geotechnical projects requires knowledge of geology and soil mechanics in addition to the ability to read and understand plans and soil data. Because of the critical nature of the work, geotechnical drillers must be well-versed in the safe operation of heavy machinery and must take all necessary precautions to ensure that their workplace is free of hazards. Well-executed geotechnical drilling is critical to the achievement of any building project goals, as it yields the information required to create a solid foundation design.
