Job Description

Summary: Under the direction of the Marina Manager, the Inboard/Outboard Boat Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing boat engines and related systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

• Diagnoses and repairs inboard and outboard engines, including fuel systems, steering, and cooling systems
• Performs routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and tune-ups
• Troubleshoots and repairs propulsion systems, including transmissions, propellers, and gearboxes
• Conducts inspections to identify mechanical or safety issues and recommend necessary repairs
• Installs and repairs marine electronics, including GPS, depth finders, and navigation lights
• Tests and run engines to ensure proper functionality before and after repairs
• Maintains a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols
• Keeps records of maintenance, repairs, and parts used
• Stays updated on the latest marine engine technologies and repair techniques
• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of marine engine systems, fuel systems, and hydraulics
• Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment effectively
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or certifications in marine mechanics preferred)
• Proven experience as a marine mechanic specializing in inboard and outboard engines
• Certifications from organizations like ABYC (American Boat & Yacht Council) or manufacturer-specific training (Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, etc.) are a plus
