Brief Description: The Live Event Audio Engineer position is responsible for overseeing that all events produced by Livewire, large and small, are advanced appropriately, equipped with appropriate in-house and sub-rented audio equipment including speakers, monitors, microphones, processing, rigging, accessories, and cabling, as well as appropriate power components to power that equipment. This position is also responsible for in-show audio engineering, the training of other Livewire staff members on specific show-based responsibilities, and the in-house production of audio for pre- or post-production needs. 

 

This position often requires travel outside of Fargo, North Dakota.  As this position is deeply involved in the production of live events, which are often dictated by the schedules of clients, venues, and elements outside of our control, this position often requires late nights, early mornings and work on the weekends . In turn, we do all we can to offer very flexible scheduling.

 

Duties include:

  • Be a contributing member of your team! Maintain a positive, can-do attitude, and encourage and help teammates to be their most successful. 
  • Work with Clients, Project Managers and Technical Directors to understand their vision and needs, as well as to work out any potential problems related to space and acoustics.
  • Create input/output plots prior to event (when necessary).
  • Advance talent riders to create efficiencies for talent, company, and client.
  • Attend client meetings as appropriate.
  • Work with venue contacts to determine power needs, costs and requirements.
  • Assist in scenic/layout design process.
  • Determine design and placement of audio components for the event/show considering script, location, and talent/presenter needs.
  • Source and locate additional equipment for rental or purchase as needed/directed using our extensive list of vendor partners, and any contacts you might bring to the table.
  • Work with Operations Team to communicate budgetary needs.
  • Work with and direct crew to rig/place audio equipment as needed on-site at event.
  • Collaborate with other departments on the job site by assisting with their projects if you are at a stand-still.
  • Write cue sheets describing cues and cue numbers, cross-referenced to page numbers in script/show flow documents.
  • At times, program consoles cue-to-cue for operation by other Livewire staff as needed.
  • Run cue-to-cue technical rehearsal.
  • Other duties as assigned. (Keep your office space clean, etc.)

 

Requirements (please include appropriate examples in your application materials):

  • Demonstrated experience managing audio for high-stakes corporate keynote events
  • Familiarity with the following brands/products, software, and strategies:
  • Yamaha CL series, RIO, Dante, X32/M32, S16/32, Nexo GEO-T, JBL SRX/VRX/VerTec, Shure QLX-D, ULD, SLX, BLX wireless systems, Sennheiser Evolution Wireless systems
  • Rider advance process for festival environment to provide economic advantages for client and company
  • Gain structure and routing for hybrid event environments (virtual/broadcast/in-person)
  • Wireless component (mic, in-ear, etc.) frequency management
  • Proven experience with industry standards in rigging/trussing applications and event power applications.
  • Proven knowledge of classic and modern audio equipment; analog and digital.
  • Strong computer and Internet skills desired.
  • Multi-tasking and ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Current driver's license or ability to get to/from office easily.
  • Able to see projects through from concept to completion.
  • Able to climb a ladder, use scissor/articulating lifts, and do some heavy lifting (equipment related) (license not required in ND/MN).
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to drive 26' box truck (non-CDL).
  • Trustworthy, self-motivated, self-starting, individual.
  • “Make it happen”, positive attitude while working in a rapidly-changing live event environment.
  • Evidence of ability to think critically and quickly on the job site.
  • Able to economically and effectively implement the use of audio, in coordination with other media, to create engaging, energizing environments for corporate, concert and theatrical events of all sizes with clear, consistent audio.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, balancing input and making the best decision(s) for all involved.

 

Helpful, but not required:

  • Audio-specific degree from any institution
  • Forklift certification
  • Bachelor’s degree or above from a credible four-year institution
  • State-issued electrician or technology license
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) a plus, but not preferred.

 

Pay/Benefits: Annual pay determined on experience. Annual range $46,000-$76,500 DOE, plus:

  • (80) Hours, ARTS time: All team members are encouraged to participate in and support non-profit/educational theatre, dance, music or arts initiatives in the communities we serve. ARTS time can be utilized anytime throughout a 365-day period upon approval.
  • (15) days paid time off
  • (5) paid sick days
  • Healthcare, 401K, Vision, Dental, and many other ala-carte benefit options available.
  • Lodging and meals for out-of-town production work.
  • Company vehicles are usually provided for out-of-town work, in which case all fuel is paid. If for some reason this is not an option, mileage is paid at the current federal rate when using a personal vehicle.
