Recreation Tour Guide
Wildwood Resort and Marina is looking for fun, talented Outdoor Recreation Guides with broad experiences leading outdoor guided trips and a love for and interest in interpretive programs. We are seeking a guide who possesses strong people skills as well as strong outdoor skills and experience, and who is excited to share their experiences and passion for the outdoors with diverse audiences.
Our professional Recreation Guide will work closely with our General Manager to promote, coordinate and lead all of the resort's recreation programs and activities both onsite and offsite. While our guided adventures include hiking, biking, swimming, stargazing, sightseeing, the Recreation Guide provides a variety of additional services, including expert advice, trip planning, and on-site activities. While guides mainly conduct naturalist tours/hikes, they cross-train, support and execute various recreational programs and activities.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

  • Hike up to 10 miles per day with pack weights from 20-30 pounds
  • Maintain a clean and organized shared space
  • Perform basic vehicle safety inspections
  • Ensure guest safety in front and back country settings
  • Able to work independently and in leadership roles
  • Is able to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Drives safely and obeys traffic laws
  • Able work in various weather conditions including rain, snow, and heat
  • Stays up-to-date on local history, cultural events, trail conditions, and attractions to provide accurate and current information
  • Engage and adapt tours to guests of diverse backgrounds and physical abilities

Competencies/Required Skills and Abilities

  • Education: Outdoor recreation, naturalist, and local knowledge is a plus
  • Wilderness First Responder preferred; First Aid and CPR certification minimum required, but can be obtained after offer of employment
  • Extensive outdoor experience
  • Able to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings
  • Strong general outdoor knowledge including flora, fauna, navigation, and safety
  • Exceptional interpersonal and group leadership skills
  • Extensive knowledge of middle Tennessee and local state parks is ideal, but not required
  • 1-2 years minimum trip leadership experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be 21(+) years old

Work environment and Physical demands

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Frequent walking, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting, climbing stairs
  • Ability to stand and move continuously.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Part time position starting in April
