We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join a large Life Sciences company on a contract basis in Menlo Park, California. In this role, you will manage critical accounting functions, including month-end close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in general ledger management, journal entries, and process improvement, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations (cash, investments, prepaids, sales tax, AP, etc.).
  • Investigate and resolve accounting variances with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare detailed account flux analyses and maintain comprehensive supporting documentation.
  • Manage vendor operations: onboard and maintain vendor records, process vendor requests, and ensure purchase order and AP reconciliation compliance.
  • Oversee Expensify processing and reconciliations to ensure proper expense allocation and reporting.
  • Coordinate daily cash reporting, monitor cash movements, and assist with forecasting and bank account oversight.
  • Partner with supply chain and procurement teams to maintain policy compliance and improve workflow efficiency.
  • Support annual financial audits through preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and identify opportunities for process and system improvements.
  • Contribute to special projects and system enhancements across the accounting function.
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (required); CPA/MBA preferred.
  • 3–5 years’ combined public and industry accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite and advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and internal controls.
  • Experience in process optimization, system implementation, and cross-functional collaboration.
