The Axel Group is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our clients team in Gloucester County, NJ! Our client is a well-known Environmental Engineering firm! They offer services that include remediation, engineering services, compliance, analytics, industrial services and many more across all sectors. They also have a diverse portfolio of clients as well, including multiple Fortune 500 companies throughout the country.

Responsibilities

This role will provide both technical oversight and project management for a range of environmental investigation and remediation assignments. It also involves active participation in the professional development of junior staff and ensuring project excellence from start to finish.

Project Management & Leadership:

• Lead and coordinate environmental projects or major components of complex assignments, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Develop project-specific health and safety plans and manage day-to-day execution of field and office tasks.
• Monitor project performance to ensure timelines, budgets, and invoicing align with company standards and client expectations.

Technical Oversight & Reporting:

• Perform and oversee complex technical tasks based on senior-level expertise, including analysis and interpretation of environmental data.
• Manage quality assurance/quality control of sampling programs, data interpretation, and technical reporting.
• Support the creation and peer review of environmental deliverables, ensuring regulatory compliance and technical clarity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or technical discipline (e.g., environmental science, geology, engineering).
• At least 7 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a strong background in field investigations and remedial actions.
• Proven expertise conducting investigations and implementing remediation strategies across soil, groundwater, and other environmental media.
• In-depth familiarity with NJDEP's Site Remediation Program (SRP) regulations, guidance documents, and reporting requirements.
• Holds or is eligible for applicable professional credentials (e.g., Professional Geologist, Certified Professional Geologist, Licensed Site Remediation Professional).
• Skilled in advanced technical interpretation, including preparing detailed remedial cost estimates and evaluating site data.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and managing remedial investigations, including hydrogeological assessments and development of conceptual site models (CSMs).
• Strong project leadership abilities, with a track record of managing project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Committed to mentoring and supporting junior team members through direct collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Comfortable with standard office tasks, including prolonged computer use and repetitive hand movements.
