For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.
NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).
Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an at-will relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.
PLEASE NOTE: An Enrollee is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An Enrollee is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications
Minimum of 20 years of experience in Archaeology OR PhD in Archaeology with additional 20 years of experience in Archaeology.
Significant experience directing all types and phases of archaeological projects, including archaeological survey and excavation. Demonstrated experience authoring archaeological reports and publications. Graduate degree is required, in part, to meet Secretary of Interior‘s Professional Archaeology Qualifications.
Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel.
Duties
Critically evaluates the results of high-profile archaeological research in national parks. Authors publishable reports, White Papers, or similar documents summarizing results. Advises and makes recommendations to parks and regional programs on archaeological issues, projects, interpretation and education. 45%
Provides significant coordination to all phases of archaeological projects, including inventories (often called surveys), test excavations, or small scale data recovery projects; authors and/or edits research designs and technical completion reports of those projects. May conduct archaeological research on museum collections. 45%
Develops research designs and other planning documents for archeological inventory/survey and excavation projects. Enters relevant information into appropriate state archaeological or cultural resources databases (such as Compass in Colorado and NMCRIS in New Mexico). 5%
Mentors new and existing archaeology professionals. 5%

Required Certifications: Meets the Secretary of Interior‘s Professional Qualifications for Archaeology.
Overnight travel: Overnight travel will be infrequent, but archaeological work in some parks may be remote and will require overnight stays. Anticipated overnight travel is two nights per month.
Air travel anticipated: Travel by air will be infrequent, perhaps only once per year.
Health and Safety Considerations: Review of and adherence to NPS Job Hazard Assessments related to specific archaeological activities will be required. Guidance and training will also be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary.
Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, fall protection, ear plugs, safety vest, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.
Physical requirements: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to work in varied and extreme environments and climates; hike or walk in rugged terrain, and work in confined spaces. May require heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).
